FG Wilson generating sets tailor made to support an NHS hospital

Have you ever wondered how they construct model ships within a bottle not much bigger than the model itself? This was the problem that a large hospital located in South Wales, UK, encountered when seeking to increase its standby power capacity by over 50%. The plant-room housed a single 800kVA unit, associated exhaust and acoustic systems and the hospital trust sought to utilise this plantroom for the new equipment.

In conjunction with the trust's appointed consultants, FG Wilson's Dealer tendered for, and was subsequently successful in being awarded this challenging project. Due to the plant-rooms size, the design team had to tailor a solution utilising the limited space available. As previous experience with hospitals had shown, the solution had to comply with to NHS specification, meet tight budget constraints and be delivered on time.

Our Dealer's Design & Installation team not only handled the removal of the existing unit, which was used elsewhere on site, but they also supplied and installed two new FG Wilson 650 kVA synchronising sets. All attenuation was installed outside the building and the exhaust system extended to an elevated position with venting situated above the surrounding buildings. The 6200 control system performed exceptionally well in testing, exceeding all expectations of delivery of the synchronised power to the load breaker within the perimeters set by the C44 NHS specification.

The FG Wilson synchronised units offered a cost saving and space saving solution, and thanks to the Project Managers, Technical Engineers, Installation Team & Commissioning Engineer everything was delivered on schedule and within budget.
