FG Wilson Helps to Transform iconic London landmark

Bells Power secures trio of major contracts including the new Ludgate developement in The White City, London

Bells Power, an official FG Wilson Dealer in the UK and one of FG Wilson's worldwide network of 370 Dealers, has been appointed to deliver a power solution for a project that will help transform one of the UK's most iconic landmarks.

Bells has secured the contract to supply and install the life safety generator which will power the redevelopment of White City, a collection of buildings and studios in West London which housed the headquarters of BBC Television for over 50 years until 2013.

The White City deal is one of three major contracts won recently by Bells, a London-based firm which specializes in supply, installation, commissioning and after-sales support of FG Wilson diesel generator sets. Bells has also been appointed to deliver power solutions for 'New Ludgate 1 and 2', an office-led mixed-use development in the heart of the City of London, and for the new Dover Community Hospital.

The White City project will involve an FG Wilson P800P 800 kVA generator set with an oversized 1500 kVA alternator being installed within a bespoke 75 dB(A) at 1 meter acoustic enclosure. A dedicated remote bulk storage/transfer system is to be installed close to the enclosure to provide 12 hours running at full load.

Dover Community Hospital, the third East Kent Hospital University NHS contract which Bells has won in recent months, is being built on the site of the recently demolished Buckland Hospital. The project consists of an FG Wilson P800P 800 kVA Prime Rated generator within a bespoke acoustic enclosure silenced to 65 dB(A) at 1 meter, with a dedicated fuel transfer/storage system of 12,000 litres to provide the generator with 72 hours of running at full load.

The prestigious Land Securities 'New Ludgate 1 and 2' development, situated in the shadow of St Paul's Cathedral, offers a staggering 348,000 sq ft of office space as well as restaurant and retail facilities. Within New Ludgate 1, Bells will supply and install a full turnkey package consisting of two FG Wilson P1700P 1700 kVA prime-rated tenants' generators and one P800P 800 kVA prime-rated life safety generator. In New Ludgate 2, meanwhile, the requirement is for a full turnkey package consisting of two FG Wilson P2000P 2000 kVA prime-rated tenants' generators and one P800P 800 kVA prime-rated life safety generator.

Commenting on the contract successes, James Murphy, Managing Director at Bells Power, said:

"This trio of major contract successes serves to reinforce Bells Power's position as one of the UK's leading generator specialists and highlights the total confidence which the power industry has in Bells to deliver fully on clients' requirements. We are proud of the reputation we have developed in over a century in business and look forward to successfully installing these power solutions throughout London.

"From iconic buildings such as the BBC's former headquarters, to major City of London developments and community hospitals, our portfolio proves that flexibility is a major Bells strength. We can customise products to meet any individual requirement, offering design advice and quality solutions at a competitive price to provide the highest customer service throughout the lifecycle of the project.

"It will be an honour to be involved in the redevelopment of White City, which is one of the most famous facilities of its type in the world, having been the backdrop for many BBC programmes. The solution we have designed is extremely cost-effective as the generator set size has been kept to a minimum which ensures that the generator solution fits with the allocated zone.

"We have successfully delivered on Land Securities projects in the past, which will stand us in good stead when we commence work on the Ludgate development. We will be working to a very tight timeframe and will call on our engineering experience and knowledge to ensure we deliver on schedule.

"East Kent Hospital University NHS was aware of our pedigree thanks to the work we carried out on the William Harvey Hospital in Ashford and the QEQM Hospital in Margate."

Work on all three projects is set to commence this Spring and will be completed before the end of 2014.

Through a global network of 370 Dealers, FG Wilson successfully serves and supports customers all over the world. With the back-up of FG Wilson's power solutions team, Dealers can meet any power requirement, no matter how complex.
