New Zealand Hydro Power Facilities

In New Zealand’s Waitaki Valley, the Aviemore Hydro power facility generates 220MW of electricity for around 107,000 homes.  Power comes from four 55MW generators, the largest in New Zealand, weighing 210 tonnes and with rotors nearly 8 metres in diameter.  The dam itself is made in two parts: an earth dam and a concrete dam.
